Shut off the water valve

Remove the standing water


Get a bucket and towels to remove any standing water inside. Take the water and dump it outside and remove as much water as possible until further help arrives. If you have black water you should not touch any water as it will be dangerous and may have hazardous materials. You might need to get a wet vac to remove any water that the bucket is not able to.


Move furniture and objects


Move any furniture that you can and small objects so they don't get wet. be careful when moving metal furniture that can stain the floor. Unplug appliances and electronics and put them in a safe spot to cut the chances of water damage. If your furniture does get wet take pictures for the insurance company to see.


Dry the affected area


Dry the area with air blowers and multiple fans. Salvage any flooring and baseboard that can't be saved. If it is a wood floor you might be able to save it. Stop mold growth


Make sure to disinfect the area completely with mold killer to stop any mold from growing. If you are doing an entire room you might want to use a fogger for safety and convenience reasons.
